Multi-Sensory Design Research
Research and Editorial
As a senior at Utah State University, we are required to complete a research project. I decided to research multi-sensory graphic design and its impacts on the brand experience. My research process included answering questions such as “how does each sense influence perception?” and creating case studies of brands that used multi-sensory design. Through my research I found that utilitizing multiple senses increases engagement and emotional response,
enhances comprehension and retention,
improves accessibility and inclusivity,
strengthens brand identity,
enhances interactivity and user experience, and
increases brand loyalty. I was able to present my research at Utah State’s Research Week. As part of our research project, we are tasked to design deliverables that support our findings. I designed a poster about two conflicting topics, and used tactile elements with two very different sounding songs to present the information. I also designed a booklet that showcased my findings for each sense, an example of the sense, and a case study.
